4 Things You Need to Know Before Starting your Business Social Pages

By Krista Turkel | Updated September 5, 2023

If you’re looking to launch a new brand, you know that a presence on social media is a crucial component to getting the word out about your company.

That doesn’t mean you should create an account on every platform and start posting just to post. Success in social media lies in strategy! So we’re going to break down three key things you need to know before you launch your social media pages.

Before you go live on social ...

  1. Make sure you have your branding finalized.

That means your colors, fonts, logo, etc. A page with consistent branding has a more cohesive look and gives your audience a more visually appealing feed. Bonus: When you’ve got your branding finalized, it makes creating content easier for you in the future!

  2. Make sure you really know your ideal customer

If you’re writing and creating content for a broad audience, chances are it won’t land with anyone in particular.

Consider the specific needs, wants, and pain points of your target audience. Now consider the kind of messaging they would want to hear from someone who can fix their problem. Would it be a friendly voice? An authoritative voice? Are you funny? Casual? Professional? Nail down a voice that is true to you and your business, but also a voice that will resonate with your ideal customer.

  3. Decide on your content buckets.

What do you want your customers to know about your business? Identifying what you want to talk to your audience about will help you determine your content buckets!

For example, one of your buckets could cover education on your product, while another could be more lighthearted to build brand awareness, like inspirational quotes or memes. Having content buckets as a part of your content strategy will make it easier for you to plan your content each month.

  4. Don’t start posting without researching your hashtags!

Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags, but we no longer recommend that you use that many. Instagram itself says to use between 3-5 hashtags per post, so that’s what we do for our clients.

We’ve found that what’s more important than the size of the hashtag (aka how many people have used it), is the relevance of the hashtag to your post. So we recommend using one or two branded hashtags, then finding a couple popular and specific hashtags that will work for your post.
