5 Font Pairings to Love in Canva

By Claire Sprague | March 12, 2024

Good news! Your new client says that you can create whatever look you want because they haven’t yet created brand guidelines and don’t know where to start. So fun! So you go to Canva and open up a blank document and think, “wait, where should I even start?”

As a designer, sometimes I think it’s easier to play in a box than to have an unlimited runway, and this goes for picking fonts in Canva. This especially goes for PAIRING fonts together that will work. Fear not, I’ve created a few font pairings that look great and are free to use.

Not finding what you want? Canva has tons of other fonts to choose from, so have fun pairing together a few. Here are some tips to help you through the process:

1. Pick fonts that are different styles, but complement each other well. If you’ve got a great sans serif picked out, pair it with a serif or script font and not another sans serif font. If you’ve got something super condensed and bold, pick something that can counterbalance that and be lighter, but not so thin that it gets missed when you look at the pairing from afar.

2. Unless your brand is specifically cutesy, don’t go for cutesy display fonts. Yes, they can be fun, but using them for months on end will get old.

3. If you want an even more custom look, head on over to The Creative Market, and in the search bar type in “Font Duos.” You’ll get tons of pairings that look great together and also won’t break the bank. On average, these pairings cost $15 to $30 for a single license, and you can be assured that the fonts look amazing together.

Not in the mood to go font perusing but still in need of a killer look? AMR is always here to help; custom design is part of our process. Give us a shout if you think we would be the right fit!
