How To Create Content Batches

We get it, the idea of sitting down and creating an entire month’s worth of content can seem like, well, a HUGE task.

But, here’s the truth: when you’ve got the write strategy for batching content, you can actually get through the creation process much quicker than you think AND you’ll end up saving yourself time, energy, and a lot of brainpower.

Brainstorm 30 post concepts within your content buckets

We’ve already gone over content buckets, but in case you missed it (catch up here!) your content buckets are going to be hugely helpful for the content creation process!

Each month when you sit down to create your content batches, start by writing out each of the themes of your content buckets. From there, start creating a rough outline of posts that fall under each of your content buckets. Try not to favor any one content bucket too heavily (i.e. don’t go full throttle on a month’s worth of inspirational content, mix it up!).

Here’s an example of a content outline:

Content bucket 1: Personal story/Business story

Post option 1: A carousel post showing photos from a ”how it started to how it’s going” perspective

Content bucket 2: Educational content

Post option 2: 5 Ways to….(Insert something relevant to your biz here!)

Content bucket 3: Industry content

Post option 3: Share your opinion on recent news within your industry and ask your audience to share their opinion too

Content bucket 4: Motivation content

Post option 4: Create a Reel showing your morning routine and talk about the importance of energizing morning routines to stay motivated

When you outline your ideas like this you’re able to make sure that you’re creating content that is relevant to your brand, and helps to portray your areas of expertise, your industry knowledge, and builds brand recognition, too!

Understand the purpose of each content type

From graphics to videos, each type of content serves a different purpose — especially on Instagram.

When you’re thinking about what results you want to get from your content — like better brand recognition, better engagement, follower growth, etc. — you can have a better understanding of what type of posts will help you get there)

Here’s the breakdown for Instagram content type and it’s purpose:

Reels: Expand your reach & grow your audience!! Use this space to show your brand's unique personality and invite new viewers in to learn more!

Feed Posts: Provide value!! This is where you serve your community with tips, tricks, educational content, tutorials, inspiration, etc. The feed is where you need to generate your engagement!

Stories: This is where you build that like, know, trust aspect. It's also where you pitch and sell your products, goods, and services!!

Create your visuals

Once you’ve got your content outlined, and you understand which medium (video, graphic, story, etc.) best aligns with the content you can start creating your visuals!

Since our batches are usually a month’s worth of content at a time, this can be a time-consuming process — especially if video is involved!

Setting aside an entire day, or 2 1/2 days, for visual content creation is ideal! When you have this time set aside you can really get in the zone and not interrupt your creative flow!

Start writing and scheduling

Just like visual content, written content takes time, too!

Writer’s block is REAL, and that is exactly why we suggest creating those content outlines. As much as they help you with your visual creation process, they help your writing creation process even more! Now, instead of having to come up with a post idea AND the entire caption that goes along with it, you’ve already got your ideas ready to rock.

Set aside an entire day for writing all of your caption content — of course, give yourself time to take little brain refresh breaks, but try not to deviate too much from getting this work done. You definitely want to stay in writing mode, so sitting down and writing it all out in just one day is ideal!

Once you’ve got your written content, pair it with its visual elements, add it to your scheduling platform (we love Planoly, Hootsuite, and Sprout Social!), and it’s all ready to go!

So, in just three days — brainstorming (day 1), creating visuals (day 2), writing & scheduling (day 3) — you’ve created a month’s worth of content, and eliminated that stress and dread of having to come up with a post idea on the fly!
