The Ultimate Guide to Sizing Graphics and Images for Every Platform
By Justin Cox | January 3, 2023
When it comes to creating graphics or images for social media, one thing is always top of mind: size. It can be a pain trying to remember all of the exact sizes, especially when some platforms change their sizing or are different from one another. If you’re creating content on a monthly basis, you’re probably in tune with the sizes you need to create, but sometimes you may need a refresher. Or maybe your company went under a rebrand and you need to change your profile photos and headers. That’s why we put this guide together — to serve as a go-to resource for optimizing your content for every platform.
Profile Photo: 320x320
Feed:
Square (Recommended): 1080x1080
Landscape: 1080x566
Portrait: 1080x1350
Reel: 1080x1920
Reel Cover: 1080x1920
Stories: 1080x1920
But what about all that talk about Instagram switching to a portrait-based feed? You’re right, the platform was headed in that direction and potentially could be in the future! But after tons of public backlash back in July, Instagram announced they would be rolling back those changes. Who knows what the future might hold, but for now, we recommend sticking with square feed posts and of course, vertical reels. But if you feel so inclined to create in portrait or landscape, use the above specs for the best results!

AMR Pro-Tip: Instagram is by far the most popular platform we (and most people) create content for. If you find yourself creating content primarily for Instagram and then repurposing to other platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, it is ABSOLUTELY OKAY to post 1:1 square images to these platforms. In fact, square images display just as well on these three platforms as the recommended sizes, so why reinvent the wheel? When in doubt: 1080x1080 is the way to go.
We hope you found these specs and tips helpful, and if you find yourself looking for them often, bookmark this post as your go-to resource moving forward!
