Why your social media isn’t converting paying customers
When it comes to closing clients on social media, a stunning feed can definitely help, but it's not enough to close the deal! Within that pretty feed, every single post you share needs to serve a purpose. And by purpose, I mean it needs to provide VALUE. Aesthetics will get people in the virtual door (aka onto your profile). But you need valuable, compelling, and engaging content in order to get them to open their wallets and beg you to work with them!
Now clearly, this is no easy feat, and it involved a lot of moving parts. But today, we want to address one of the biggest no-no's we see business owners do EVERY SINGLE DAY on social media, and that is putting too much of their focus on themselves and not enough on their customers. As a business owner, if you have a dream, a story, or a passion, that's great. But relying on that alone to sell your product or service is not going to cut it. The hard truth is customers are selfish, and they want to know how your business will benefit THEM. Not how their business is going to benefit YOU. They want to see what you can do to change THEIR life. This is when your business will start seeing real success.
How do you do this?
1. Start by digging into the PROBLEM that your business is solving
Contrary to popular belief, people don't buy based on features, price, or product descriptions. They buy solutions. Your ideal client has a problem, and you have a solution that will fix that problem and make their life better/easier/more meaningful. Notice again that this is solely about the client and THEIR NEEDS being addressed.
2. Position all of your content to be about your audience
Take a look at your content and ask yourself, how much of this is providing value to my followers? And would someone pay for this type of content? If the answers aren’t 100% and absolutely, then it’s time to reevaluate! Social media is a heavily saturated industry. If you’re not leading the pack, you are likely lost in the middle. And that definitely does NOT lead to converted sales.
3. Show instead of telling
Talking about the benefits of your own product/service is like bragging to your friends about how you're having a good hair day - no one really cares. Instead, they want to know what products you're using so that they can get the same results for themselves! Content is the same concept. Instead of announcing your newest design or offering, share the WHY and the HOW behind it. This shows people how important it is without you having to tell them!
4. BRING YOUR AUDIENCE INTO THE CONVERSATION
One of the key reasons for businesses to be on social media is to engage with their audience and build awareness. The second you start talking AT your audience and not TO them is the second that they will become disengaged and uninterested. Be sure that you’re using strong call to actions in all of your posts, responding to comments and messages, providing educational material, and making content that your audience actually cares about!
As a business owner, if you’re not putting your customers first, they are going to find someone else who is. Don’t fall into this perpetuating cycle. Make sure you’re selling to your customer’s needs, benefits, and values and not your own.
