Preparing Your Social Media for the Holiday Season: A Checklist

By Lauren Trujillo | December 6, 2022

December is here, and no, we can’t believe it either! Nonetheless, ’tis the season! And since we’re your go-to social media experts, we thought it’d be fitting to share our top four ways that you can get all of your social media accounts prepped and ready to launch into the holidays with ease.

So, get cozy with a cup of cocoa, and let’s dive into your new holiday season to-do’s!

1. Refresh Your Profiles

Especially if you sell giftable products, you’ll likely have more eyes on your profile this time of year, which is why it might be a good time to take a closer look at each of your social media accounts and make sure all of your information, branding, and messaging is up to date!

  • Profile pictures: Do they have the most current photo/logo for your business? Do you want to update them with any holiday branding?

  • Instagram highlights and highlight covers: Are any of your highlights outdated/need refreshing? Are your highlight covers current and on-brand?

  • Biography: Are you detailing your business and offerings clearly and concisely? Do you have any sales or holiday-specific offerings you want to include here throughout the year?

  • Company information: Is your website, phone number, email address, physical address, or other vital information straightforward and easy to find on your accounts?

Refreshing your profiles this time of year could be the deciding factor between whether or not you make the sale!

2. Schedule, Schedule, and Schedule Some More!

One aspect of the holidays that tends to be inevitable for most people is the packed schedules and never-ending events! When things get this busy, it’s easy for important to-do’s, like prepping and scheduling your holiday content, to slip through the cracks. So before it gets too late in the season, make sure you:

  • Confirm your holiday marketing campaigns and a plan for the rest of your content through December.

  • Decide how often you’ll post and which days are most optimized for your audience.

  • Curate/outsource any photography, videos, or graphics you may need.

  • Schedule your final posts through the end of the holiday season through a social media scheduling platform. At AMR, we love Sprout Social!

  • If you’re feeling ahead come mid-December, it doesn’t hurt to start prepping your content for after the holiday season!

3. Refine Your Ad Strategy!

You should absolutely be running ads this time of year! But be forewarned —  lots of ads that may have worked well for you all year long may not work as well during the holidays. It's important to integrate some new testing during this time to find the most cost effective and least saturated way to reach your audience. This means testing new targeting and creative options.

Ads are complex. This is an area where most businesses can benefit from consulting an expert. We are here to help if you need it!

4. Show Up and Connect with Your Community!

Lastly, the holidays are a time to connect with others, and this should include the community supporting you and your small business! All of the planning, scheduling, and ads in the world can’t compare to the warmth of a personalized thank you message or connection with people who are interested in what you offer. This includes:

  • Daily community management: making sure you’re up to date with all comments and messages

  • Personalized emails or DMs to thank someone for following you, purchasing from your business, or even spreading the word!

Social media is one of the most powerful tools we have to spread the word about our happenings, especially during the holiday season! That’s why it is especially important this time of year to ensure you’re solid in all of the to-dos before expecting success!

What of these to-do’s will you check off first? Have you found an area that needs improvement or one you’re already doing really well? Let us know!

And above all, Happy Holidays from our AMR family to you!
