Pinterest is moving toward videos and Idea Pins. Here's how your business should capitalize on that.

Instagram is doing it. Facebook is doing it. TikTok is doing it exclusively. And now, Pinterest is doing it.
Vertical videos are dominating the algorithms across social media platforms.
We know video can be a tough sell. It’s more time-consuming to produce, harder to edit, and slower to upload. But, trust us — it is well worth creating video content for your business’s Pinterest page. This is the audience’s preferred method of consumption right now, and the algorithm will reward you for it, getting more eyeballs on your post.
The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to create brand new video content for Pinterest. This update allows you to easily repurpose the video content you’ve already been uploading to your other social media channels, giving a second chance for videos to gain traction that may otherwise be forgotten.
Repurpose video content
If you are already posting Instagram Reels, TikToks, or YouTube videos for your business, these should all go on Pinterest. Download them and reupload them to Pinterest once a week or so. Make sure to maintain Pinterest best practices, keeping SEO in mind, and always linking the content to your website.
Pinterest allows you to upload videos up to 15 minutes long, but we recommend keeping them shorter than a minute to keep your viewer engaged.
Repurpose Instagram story content
Are you familiar with Idea Pins? Even if you’ve never heard of them, chances are you’ve already engaged with them on Pinterest.
Much like Instagram story highlights, these are small groupings of vertical pins that live at the top of your Pinterest page.
When users stumble across them as they’re surfing their Pinterest home page, they’ll be able to click through these slides within the same pin, leading to higher engagement.
We highly recommend downloading old Instagram stories to use as Idea Pins. Just make sure they don’t include any Instagram native features, such as polls or question boxes.
These are excellent ways to boost your favor in the Pinterest algorithm, and you probably don’t even need to create new content for it! That’s a huge win in our books.
