4 Steps To Improve Your Content Strategy

Engagement. Leads. Sales. Growth.

If your content isn’t bringing in these four key things for your brand or business, it’s time to level it up.

We’re not just talking about editing your videos better, or adding more eye-catching graphics (though, that can certainly help) — leveling up involves more than just visuals. If you want your content to start performing better, and you want it to start yielding the results you want (and need) to see for your business to grow, you have to dive deeper than aesthetics.

If your content isn’t helping you push for progress, this four-step system will help you get there. This is something that we do month after month for all of our clients to ensure their content is always leveling up and not plateauing.

So, we thought we’d share our strategy with all of you!

Step 1: Head to your analytics

It’s not new news — this is where you’re going to find ALL of the important insights about your content and how your audience is responding to it. Do they prefer to engage with your videos? What about saves and shares — do those higher numbers seem to correlate with infographics? How about click throughs to your website?

When you determine what action you want your audience to take most often — (head to your website, engage (likes, comments), or save and share — you can focus on creating the content that drives that action most.

Step 2: Expand your search to view performance over the last 6 months

Get a bigger scope on how your content is performing!

In our opinion, 30 days isn’t quite enough time to spot trends in audience behavior — giving yourself a 6 month window will reveal a lot more! Filter these analytics by the actions you value most — i.e. post engagements, website clicks, etc.

Step 3: Look at the top performing posts

More specifically, look at your top performing posts and identify 3 common themes of what is performing best (look at content types, topics, captions, visuals, CTA’s, etc.).

When you pull out those trends in top performing content topics, you can create content buckets around them — maybe your top performers are personal stories, answering FAQs, and educational tips/tricks/advice — when you divide these out into content buckets you can ensure that every month you are touching on the key topics that your audience resonates with most as you build out your content calendar.

Step 4: Look at the lowest performing posts

Similar to your top performing posts, try to identify 3 common themes of what is not performing well (again, look at content types, topics, captions, visuals, CTA’s, etc.).

Obviously, these things would be best to either pull back on significantly (i.e. post about them only 1-2x/month) and track their progress, or eliminate them from your content calendar all together.

Run through these four steps every month to level up your content!
