What To Do If You're In A Social Media Slump

Despite all of your best efforts — posting consistently, responding to comments, etc. — sometimes you just can’t avoid slipping into a social media slump. Your engagement starts to drop, your audience growth comes to a screeching halt, and your lead generation is dismal.

Rather than throwing your hands up in defeat and swearing off social media because it’s just too hard to keep up, we want to let you in on a little secret: social media slumps happen to everyone.

The difference between those who accept defeat and those who don’t? A slump strategy. Don’t have one? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.

If your engagement is dropping…

It's time to take a look at your strategy for reach.

→ When was the last time you revamped your hashtags? Stop using the same ones for every post! Hashtags can go stale, become banned, and become oversaturated over time. You should be checking the results of your hashtags on your posts regularly (this can be found when you click “View Insights” on your post). Every 6 months or so, create new hashtag batches — each batch should have 30! — that are relevant to your business/content.

→ Are you using location tags to target your ideal audience? You should be! This helps you expand your reach in the same way hashtags will. You do not have to use a location tag in the specific place you’re located.

→ Have you been leaving your DMs and comments unread and without a response? That’s a big no-no. Community management is an essential daily task for social media success. Stay on top of it so that messages/comments don’t slip through the cracks. Because here’s the truth: if you ghosting your followers — even unintentionally — they’ll ghost you right back.

If your follower count isn’t growing…

It's time to start being more social.

Here’s what you should do to get your follower count back on an upswing:

→ Set aside 30 minutes of your day at least 2x per week and dedicate that time to engaging with your ideal client's content! Don’t just favor profiles that are following you! The goal is to get new people on your profile — so, start branching out.

→ You should especially focus on leaving high-value comments (not just an emoji or a "Love this!"). Do this consistently and you WILL see your follower count (and, bonus: your engagement) grow.

If your content isn’t converting…

It's time to share more value and ask for action.

→ 9 times out of 10 your content isn't converting because you aren't showcasing why it's valuable. Your content should ALWAYS provide value to your ideal client — whether that's solving a problem, offering advice, or providing inspiration.

→ Your content should also ALWAYS have an action item: to comment below, to sign up for your new course, to DM you for more info, or to visit your website. You want to create an opportunity for lead generation every chance you get, so every post you share should have some type of call to action!

Don’t let a social media slump stop you from showing up. They happen to everyone. Instead, remember that a slump is temporary, and let it motivate you to take a look at what you’ve been doing, and find ways to improve. There is always room for improvement, and we're here to help you show up your best to achieve the best results!
